Each design project by Rand El Haj Hasan goes through a unique process she likes to call “paintstorming.” It is a phase where abstraction helps in keeping a distance from the burdens of expectations. The abstraction is never absolute. Each canvas in the service of a new project is research-ground and painted on a scale fit specifically for the purpose of the study.

There is no reason for a new project to build on an old typology just because it already exists. Let each design find its way through thorough oil painting and the surprises it promises.
