‘Romantic quarters’ is a cabin designed as a sanctuary for lovers meeting to enjoy nature, practice self-care and express affection. When partners meet, they unite parts of themselves with parts of the other.  Together, they create shared time, space and patterns. Yet, in order for that to happen, and in order for the self to receive the other, it must have the time and the space that it needs to flourish.

The design is based on an open plan that is highly fluid; spaces allow for a hide-and-seek dynamic where both privacy and togetherness are possible. Romantic quarters is a retreat with four sanctuary goals: bathing, eating, relaxing and resting. Alpha Brainwaves are stimulated by eyesight and contemplation. The view at the centre of the sober living room specifically serves that purpose.

In coherence with Earth Energies Sanctuary’s neuroscience-based therapies, each space is optimized according to the activities in question and the corresponding brainwaves.

Theta Brainwaves are favoured by serene activities, including preparing a meal with one’s own hands, or meditating in a solemn atmosphere.

Delta brainwaves are triggered during sleep and encouraged within a pleasant setup to rest and dream throughout the night.

The material palette stems from the idea that a luxurious setting can be obtained by repeating a limited number of key materials. In this case, these materials are local wood (Kilwa), soft white fabric, burgundy carpet and textile, green marble, copper accessories.

α : Alpha Brainwaves: Awake but relaxed state of mind, stimulated during attentive perception, as in contemplating nature.

θ : Theta Brainwaves: Deep focus, activated during repetitive movements, including cooking and meditation.                       

δ : Delta Brainwaves: Lowest frequency among all waves, active during deep sleep.
